About Talkora

Hey everyone! I'm Matt, the founder of Talkora.

I've spent years teaching English abroad and running exchange programs in Canada. During that time, I worked with thousands of students and kept hearing the same thing: "I speak English, but I don't have anyone to practice with."

That's why I started Talkora. I wanted to create a comfortable place where people can actually use their English, meet people from around the world, and get the kind of speaking practice that's hard to find in a textbook or traditional class.

I'm a language learner too. I learned Spanish while living abroad, and I'm working on my Portuguese now. Most of the progress I've made came from talking to people, making mistakes, and trying again. That's the experience I want Talkora to give other learners.

Before Talkora, I spent years teaching English in Guatemala. This photo is from one of those classes. It's where I really fell in love with teaching and a big part of the reason Talkora exists today.

Our mission

Talkora exists to help people become confident English speakers by giving them more chances to actually speak. We keep groups small, make mistakes normal, and build sessions around conversations people want to have. As Talkora grows, I want to bring together more conversation leaders, more specialized clubs, and learners from more countries while keeping that same personal, welcoming feeling.
